Why warmth
is the answer
your eyes
have needed.

Eye drops treat the symptom. Sustained heat addresses the cause. Understanding why reveals everything.

The Healthy Tear Film
Oil Layer
Seals moisture in — produced by the meibomian glands
Water Layer
Nourishes and protects the surface of the eye
Mucus Layer
Anchors the tear film to the cornea
The Root Cause

Blocked
oil glands.

Your tears are sealed by a thin layer of oil produced by the meibomian glands. Screen time, hormonal changes, and daily stress cause this oil to thicken and harden — blocking the glands, collapsing the tear film, and leaving your eyes dry, burning, and irritated.

Eye drops replace the water layer temporarily. They cannot melt the hardened oil. Only sustained, precise heat can do that.

Healthy Gland
Oil flows freely,
tears are sealed.
The meibomian gland expresses fluid oil naturally with each blink, maintaining a complete, protective tear film.
Blocked Gland
Oil hardens,
tears evaporate.
Thickened oil sits stagnant. The oil layer collapses. Tears evaporate within seconds of forming.
The Method

Four steps to
lasting relief.

This is not just clinical therapy for your eyes. Done with intention, it becomes the most restorative fifteen minutes of your evening.

01
Apply Consistent Heat

Place the self-heating mask over closed eyes. Unlike a washcloth that cools within seconds, the Somna mask delivers a precise, continuous temperature for the exact duration required to melt trapped oils.

02
Rest & Breathe

Allow at least thirty minutes. The gentle warmth and darkness signal to your nervous system that it is safe to down-regulate — initiating the parasympathetic response that precedes deep sleep.

03
Gentle Massage

Remove the mask and use fingertips to apply light downward pressure on upper lids, upward on lower. This expresses the newly softened oils out of the glands and into your tear film.

04
Intentional Blinking

Finish with slow, complete blinks — gently squeezing the eyes shut. This spreads the fresh oil evenly across the surface, rebuilding the protective barrier that seals your tears in.

Thermal Precision

The exact
temperature matters.

Meibomian oil melts at a specific threshold. Too cool and the glands remain blocked. Too warm and you risk discomfort. Our masks are calibrated to deliver 40°C continuously — the clinical sweet spot — for the full duration of your session.

This consistency is what separates a self-heating mask from a warm flannel. Heat that fades is heat that doesn't work.

Treating dry eyes shouldn't feel like a medical chore. It should feel like a moment of luxury, a moment for you, a deliberate act of care that connects clinical efficacy and deep relaxation.
